Carlos G. Salinas

Partner

Carlos Salinas graduated from the University of Texas School of Law in 2003 and began his legal practice in California, developing a broad range of skills in family law matters while nurturing his particular interest in representing survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. His work has included marital dissolutions, pre- and post-marital agreements, child custody, child support, minors’ counsel, complex property distribution, and cases involving domestic violence.

He returned to Texas in 2008, where he expanded his broad family law practice to include applications under the Hague Convention for the return of children abducted by family members across international borders. He holds a mediation certification from the Center for Public Policy Dispute Resolution, but also has extensive courtroom experience in contested litigation. With this wide range of experience, he believes in creating a customized approach for each client that reflects the unique situation of each family and resolves legal problems by prioritizing the client’s individual needs and goals.

Public service is important to Carlos both as a means of giving back to his community and as a way of keeping up with emerging trends that affect his practice locally and at the state and national levels. A member of the American Bar Association, the Austin Bar Association, and the Williamson County Bar Association, he co-chairs the State Bar of Texas Family Law Task Force and the Travis County Firearms Work Group, and is a Commissioner in the American Bar Association’s Commission on Domestic and Sexual Violence.

He serves on the board of Save Our Springs Alliance and as a mentor attorney for Volunteer Legal Services of Central Texas. He is also a member of both the Family Law Section and the Hispanic Bar Association. Since 2010, Carlos has remained active as a faculty member of the ABA Commission on Domestic Violence, which facilitates national trainings on best practices for attorneys serving survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. Carlos has also spoken on family law topics at such statewide and national conferences held by the State Bar of Texas, The University of Texas School of Law and the National Crime Victim Law Institute. Carlos lives in Austin with his sons Mateo and Diego.

Through a thorny array of service issues, abuse issues, international issues, and child custody issues, Carlos was a consistent comfort to me.
